Blog With No Name

Quick Blog, as I'm about to pop out of the house and I couldn't think of a title...

A lovely weekend of shows at Ministry of Burlesque's Twisted Cabaret at the Komedia in Bath - this is one of my favourite shows as the audiences are always very excitable and welcoming, and Bath is so beautiful!

Komedia, Bath.

The show was hosted by the amazing Abi Collins as Katinka, and I got to meet a whole load of people I'd never met outside of Facebook!

Mirror Picture! With Tom Baker, Morgan and West, Kittie Klaw, Sukki Singapora and Abi Collins!

After a leisurely breakfast I headed back to London for Simon Drake's House of Magic; another wonderful show with some truly wonderful people.

Selfies! With Stevie!

Abby and Snakey Sue!

Then on Sunday evening I attended a little shindig for the gorgeous Ruby Deshabille's birthday party! It was so nice to sit out in the evening warmth with a glass of wine and good friends, and see some beautiful faces I've not seen in far too long!

Alongside performing in some fabulous shows, I've been to my regular trapeze and hoop classes and, well, I can't really say I'm getting good, but I'm getting there at least!

Love, Lust, Life and Learning

Yes, I've been particularly lax at posting again. I'm not going to lie and say I've been that busy, but I have been occupied with other, 'real life' concerns that have left me unable and unwilling to post a lot.

On the performance side, I've had a couple of lovely shows in the last few weeks: one of my favourite regular shows is High Tease in Bath at the Komedia - the audiences are always lovely and I have a blast whenever I'm there.

One of the best parts about the Bath shows is getting to hang out with everyone after the show and eat burgers from the amazing burger shop next to the Komedia!

The following week I performed at a couple of hen parties for the company Burlesque Baby - the girls were lovely and appreciative, and I always enjoy working for the company as they look after their performers so well.

After dashing around Soho and Covent Garden all afternoon I took myself off to Volupte Lounge for a double show with the gorgeous Tempest Rose and House of Burlesque.

The show was inspired by the very first show I did with the company, Circus Burlesque, which was based on the Seven Deadly Sins. Each show in this run is inspired by one of the sins and the opposite virtue, so I performed Lust (obviously!) and Chastity, depicted with my rarely seen, non-striptease serpentine dance.

Mirror Picture! With Gwendoline L'Amour, Tommaso, Dolly Rose, Tempest Rose and Betty Blushes!

I adore the girls in the show, and it was especially lovely to meet the gorgeous Gwendoline L'Amour at last - she is one of the pioneers of the modern burlesque scene in London and the UK and she was an absolute delight to chat to between shows.

This weekend I have a private party to head to where I'll be singing a few songs for a birthday girl alongside a stellar line-up!

Christmas Showgirl

Another busy, busy week here!

On Friday I travelled to Bath - the most beautiful city, and one of my favourite places to perform as a large proportion of the audience are regulars to High Tease so there's always an amazing atmosphere!

Christmas Tree by Bath Cathedral

The show was more 'Party' themed than Christmas, which worked well as I was looking forward to performing my newly re-costumed 'Shake it Doll' act - a showgirl striptease with a rock and roll edge!

New costume goodness!

This month was hosted by the wonderful Tempest Rose and featured a fabulous line up of fabulous people:

Elliot on stage ** Tempest on stage

Christmas dinner pre-show ** Dancing at the disco post-show!

Saturday was a rare treat for me - I was performing as part of the Flaming Feathers Burlesque Show in Bath that evening so I had the entire afternoon to myself to wander around the beautiful city, do a little more Christmas shopping and shelter from the rain in quaint coffee shops!

Pretty coffee

The show went fabulously well - unfortunately since we had separate changing rooms I didn't get chance to take any pictures! However here are a couple stolen from others on Facebook :P

On Sunday, back in London, I indulged in one of my favourite pass-times; vintage shopping! After a lovely lunch at Goode and Wright in Portobello (it's delicious, you all must go!) I unearthed some fabulous and unusual vintage furs - Christmas present to myself, obviously! I adore vintage shops and markets for the weird and wonderful things you can find:

Taz with life-sized brass skeleton! ** Ken and headless Barbie...

A hectic, yet fun Christmas Eve soon arrived - dashing around, shopping for the last few bits and bobs, running out of wrapping paper and gift-bags, wrapping and packing until I was exhausted! However a steady stream of Christmas movies (Muppet Christmas Carol and Nightmare Before Christmas are firm favourites!) kept me going all along!

It has been a truly lovely Christmas season - spent with family and dear friends, eating far, far too much delicious food and drinking far, far too much delicious booze!

Hat Trick

Thursday is the start of the weekend for me: it's usually the first day of the week I have a show and last weekend began by travelling to Barnstaple with Dolly Rose and Elliot Mason for The Burlesque Show.

The Queen's Theatre, Barnstaple

It was a lovely show, hosted by Lili La Scala and featuring the usual cast of wonderful performers. I hadn't seen Fancy Chance since the shows in Jersey back in August so it was great to have a catch up with her and she performed her fabulous 'Prince' act too, which I love!

Mirror Picture! With Kittie Klaw and Fancy Chance

We stayed in a nice little hotel overnight, and after a lovely breakfast I headed off through the rain with Jim Devereaux to Bath for one of my favourite shows; High Tease at the Bath Komedia.

The show was loosely Halloween Themed - one of the things I enjoy most about the Bath shows is that the audience always get really involved, dressing up to the nines and having a wonderful time. I was excited to see Velma's 'Fandango' act - the costume and concept was wonderful and the act itself was truly inspired. For me, the highlight of the night, though, was Alex's incredible double-act with her dance partner (sexy ping-pong! *not* that way... filthy people!) It was weird, wonderful, sexy and disturbingly gorgeous. I loved it! I also had a giggle performing as 'Zombie Marilyn' - singing 'My Heart Belongs to Daddy' complete with blood-soaked sponge heart!

Zombie Marilyn

After the show, we piled back to the Komedia flat, loaded with with burgers and chips from Schwartz Brothers (or Shwartzenburgen :P ) and lots of wine and beer to round off the night with several hours of gossip and giggles.

Ye Olde Sweet Shoppe - Bath

On Saturday morning we had a couple of free hours to have a lovely brunch and wander around the beautiful shops in the centre of Bath - the weather was bright but freezing cold and I was so happy for my gorgeous new coat I bought in Camden last week! Then we loaded the cars back up to complete the hat-trick of shows with another 'The Burlesque Show', this time in St. Albans.

Mirror Picture! With Jim Devereaux, Elan, Dolores Delight, Tempest Rose and Kittie Klaw

This show was spearheaded by one of my favourite hostesses, Tempest Rose, and she absolutely slammed it! The audience were onside from the very start and the whole show was so much fun (even though I put the heel of my shoe through the sequinned dress for my 'Sugar' act and had to perform a very unsexy manoeuvre to unhook myself!)

This is how I'm spending my Sunday!

So, tired, aching but completely contented, I made it back home for a lazy Sunday in front of trash TV! Blissful!

Here, There and Back Again

This week has been such a whirlwind of activity and I think I've come down with a little bit of a cold as a result of it all!
On Tuesday I popped to London for the second Big Burlesque Night Out - it was lovely to catch up with old friends, and meet some new ones too! We danced at The Arts Theatre in Soho, drank cocktails out of teapots and I also vaguely remember being in a rickshaw through Trafalgar Square. Glorious... and messy...

The next morning, taking advantage of the gorgeous weather, I was taken on a magical mystery tour of London, ending with a lovely meal beside the River Wandle and a wander around Deen City Farm where all the baby animals were out in force!!

Cutest little piglet!

The rest of the week was taken up with my latest obsession: I am dramatically pimping out several of my costumes: even though 'Sugar' is a brand new act, the dress was not up to the rigours of performing on stage several nights a week and was already starting to fall apart, so I have changed and improved the dress. I also put the finishing touches to my new 'Peacock Dance' costume which is one of my oldest acts and is onto its fourth incarnation!
I still want to work on the costumes for 'Shake It' and 'Broadway Belle' but they will probably take another week or so of solid sewing...

New costumes for 'Sugar' and 'Peacock Dance'

On Friday - it being the last Friday of the month - I travelled to Bath for High Tease. Although this time I wasn't performing, but stage managing! I get more nervous for kittening than I do performing: if I mess up during my act, it's only really me who knows, but if I mess up kittening, then I've messed up someone else's act! However, I got my head in the game and both the sound check and the show went off without a hitch! Go me!
Fortunately the line-up was incredible: Dusty Limits hosting (and giving a shout-out to his sponsors!) with performances from the unbelievably sexy Luna Rosa (who had to dash off after her second act to catch a flight to Stockholm! How glamorous!), Tricity Vouge - who I'd heard so much about but had never actually seen before Friday, and she had me in stitches! - the whirlwind of energy that is Peggy de Lune, my darling Coco Malone and the gorgeous Sherry Trifle, who I haven't seen for ages!!

In fact, the last time I saw Sherry was at Dr. Sketchy's in Birmingham, which was where I was heading to on Saturday! The shows theme was 'Spring has Sprung' and even the weather was getting in on the act with tropical temperatures and scorching sunlight!
The audience was small but appreciative: the show was hosted by the resident chanteuse Liberty Pink and I was sharing the bill with Shirley Windmill - who performed her hysterical 'marrow' act, and Velma von Bon Bon - who I've seen perform before but had never shared a bill with before this weekend!
Because of the way Sketchy's is run, I actually got chance to sit down and do a little doodling myself after watching Velma's act!

Velma von Bon Bon - by me!!

I'm happy to be back home with my cats and the kittens (who are beginning to get a lot braver and more adventurous - they'll be all over the place and into everything shortly!) as the week of hot weather and travelling has tired me out.
I'm not so happy that I forgot to take pictures at either of the shows this weekend, so to make it up to you, here are some more pictures of the kittens. Enjoy!

Wine and Cocktails: Glitter and Gossip

Goodness me, what a week I've had! Full of shows, new acts, cocktails, wine, friends, gossip and glitter...

On Monday I started off my epic journey by travelling down to lovely London - for something of a break actually as I had no shows until mid-week: so after a lovely relaxing day and a wander around Covent Garden, I took the opportunity on Tuesday to see a West End show - something I haven't done in years, and Wicked didn't disappoint!

Blurry picture of the stage

I have spent the last couple of weeks working on two new acts and on Wednesday I debuted them both at Proud Cabaret

Costumes for 'Sugar' and 'Corbeau'

Whenever I debut a new act, I always make sure I'm also performing one that I know back-to-front, so as you can imagine, I was incredibly nervous for two new routines on one night! However, Proud City is a beautiful venue and I love performing there as all of the staff are so friendly and supportive.

Proud: City

Wednesday night is billed as 'Nouveau Variate' and encourages new performers to take part, or for more seasoned performers to introduce new routines: 'Corbeau' went really well, for a first performance: I mis-timed the ending but the music is so epic it doesn't really make that much difference. However 'Sugar' went quite wrong as the sequins on my dress caught on the sequins on my shoes and tangled me up for half of the act until I could take them off, which threw me for the rest of the act.
I use an awful lot of glitter during 'Sugar' and I found out after the show that the small table in front of the stage that bore the brunt of my glitter-casting had absolutely loved it and had scraped some of the glitter off the stage to continue covering themselves in the stuff!

Covered in glitter!! - post 'Sugar'

The rest of the cast for the night were wonderful: Abi Collins debuted a new act herself, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and the audience, though small, was incredibly appreciative. I especially enjoyed hanging out with Amelie Soleil, who I've not seen for almost a year! We had a lot to catch up on!

On Thursday night, I returned to Proud for their 'Noir Night' and performed alongside the incredible Mat Ricardo, Betsy Rose and Dolores Delight. The audience wasn't as involved as the previous night even there were more than double the amount of people in: this time, 'Sugar' went really well (thanks to panic-buying a new pair of shoes during the day!) but 'Corbeau' felt as though it fell slightly flat, even though it fit the theme of the night much more.

I wasn't feeling particularly on-form myself on Thursday, however a couple of Espresso Martini's, a catch up with the fabulous Betsy Rose and a packet of Quavers helped restore my spirits!

Friday launched a fabulous weekend as I travelled with Elliot Mason and Abi Collins to beautiful Bath for High Tease at the Komedia. I love this show as there is always such a sense of camaraderie backstage and the audience are that rare sort that are up for anything - the wilder the better and the show certainly didn't disappoint with the line-up including a troupe of Cossack Dancers inviting audience participation!

Unfortunately, in a break with Bath High Tease tradition, we didn't stay over after the show as Kittie, Frankie, James, Elliot and I had to travel back to Manchester due to 'The Burlesque Show' in Bradford on Saturday!

Saturday saw me waking up caked in glitter, yet Frankie Lynn (who I shared a room with) was miraculously untouched! Alexandra Hofgartner and I were forced to make a detour en-route to the show for industrial-strength glitter-removing products, which led to us becoming incredibly lost and arriving at the venue around an hour after everyone else!

The sold-out audience loved the show, and even though they took some time to get into the swing of things, by the time Jim Devereaux sang them out as Elvis, they were calling for encores!
The highlight of the night had to be Kittie Klaw's 'Britannia' - she rounds off the act by dancing to 'Can't Touch This' while performing wheelies on a Dareway that's been pimped out to resemble a Roman Chariot. Too much fun!

Once again we travelled in convoy back to Manchester, and once again Alex and I managed to get indecently lost (finding ourselves near Liverpool at one stage!) and landing back at Kittie Klaw's house several hours after everyone else!

Rounding off the most fabulous week was the most rainy Sunday: I went shopping and bought myself some new shoes to cheer myself up. However the day swiftly improved upon arrival at The Lowry Theatre in Manchester for the most packed and incredible show I've ever had the privilege to be part of!

Alexandra Hofgartner rehearsing on-stage at The Lowry, and playing with Joe Black postcards during sound-check.

For a start, we had completely sold out, and the audience were nuts (in a good way) - the show was hosted by the force of nature that is Dusty Limits, and the cast were incredible! The line-up covered every aspect of Burlesque and Cabaret, from Glorian Gray's 'Marie Lloyd' tribute act, reminiscent of the Victorian Music Halls, to Carrie-Ann O'Dell's epic Dita Von Teese tribute act, complete with giant martini glass.
There was Boylesque from Flixx Demontrant, performance-art from Vicky Butterfly, circus from AJ James, alternative from Joe Black, beautiful dance-based pieces from Frankie Lynn and Alexandra Hofgartner, and sultry vocals from Dolores Delight. We got a lovely review too.

The after-show was just as much fun as the show itself, and was definitely the best way to see out an incredible week of shows!
